This product is supplied as Research Use Only (RUO) material and intended exclusively for research applications.
LL‑37 (Cathelicidin)
LL‑37 is a human‑derived cationic amphipathic antimicrobial peptide consisting of 37 amino‑acid residues, processed from human hCAP‑18 protein. It serves as a key effector molecule of human innate immune defense for laboratory research only.
In pre‑clinical experiments, LL‑37 interacts with microbial membranes, exhibiting broad‑spectrum activities against bacteria, fungi and enveloped viruses. It also inhibits biofilm formation of drug‑resistant strains. Beyond antimicrobial effects, this peptide participates in immunomodulation: regulating inflammatory signaling pathways, modulating cytokine release. It is widely applied in research of epithelial cell migration, keratinocyte proliferation, angiogenesis and wound‑healing related mechanisms. Research fields include host‑pathogen interaction, infectious models, skin barrier repair and immune homeostasis.
Our synthetic LL‑37 lyophilized powder is verified by HPLC‑MS identification and purity test. Each batch is supplied with complete COA documentation.

    LL-37 5mg — Human Cathelicidin Antimicrobial Peptide for Research

    LL-37 is a 37-amino acid cationic, amphipathic α-helical peptide and the only cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide identified in humans. It is derived from the C-terminal end of hCAP-18 (human cationic antimicrobial protein 18), the precursor protein encoded by the CAMP gene, and is produced primarily by neutrophils and epithelial cells as a key component of the innate immune system.

    Beyond direct broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, LL-37 functions as a multifunctional host-defense peptide involved in immunomodulation, wound healing, and biofilm disruption, making it one of the most intensively studied antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in current research.

    Each vial contains 5mg of LL-37, supplied as a sterile lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder to ensure maximum stability and long-term storage integrity.

    ▎Research Highlights

    • Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Activity: LL-37 exhibits activity against a wide range of pathogens including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses, primarily through disruption of microbial membranes.
    • The Only Human Cathelicidin: As the sole cathelicidin in humans, LL-37 is the definitive reference compound for studying cathelicidin biology and host-defense peptide mechanisms.
    • Immunomodulatory Functions: LL-37 acts as a signaling molecule that modulates inflammation — it can bind and activate G protein-coupled receptors such as FPRL1/ALX, influence cytokine production, and regulate immune cell chemotaxis.
    • Wound Healing Research: Published studies show LL-37 is involved in re-epithelialization of human skin wounds and is lacking in chronic ulcer epithelium, making it a compound of major interest in wound repair research.
    • Anti-Biofilm Activity: LL-37 has been investigated for its ability to disrupt microbial biofilms, a property distinguishing it from many conventional antimicrobial agents.

    ▎Mechanism of Action (Summary)

    LL-37 exerts its biological effects through multiple complementary mechanisms:

    • Membrane disruption: the cationic amphipathic α-helical structure enables LL-37 to bind and disrupt negatively charged microbial membranes;
    • Receptor-mediated signaling: activation of GPCRs including FPRL1/ALX modulates inflammatory responses and immune cell recruitment;
    • Intracellular translocation: LL-37 can enter microbial cells and interfere with intracellular processes in certain pathogens;
    • Tissue repair modulation: LL-37 influences keratinocyte and epithelial cell migration and proliferation relevant to wound re-epithelialization.

    ▎Storage & Handling

    Lyophilized Powder Store at −20°C, dry and protected from light. Under these conditions the peptide is stable for up to 24 months.
    Reconstitution Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water or appropriate solvent. LL-37 is soluble in aqueous solutions; gentle agitation is recommended.
    After Reconstitution Store reconstituted solutions at 2–8°C and use promptly. Prepare aliquots to minimize repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
    Handling Notes Centrifuge briefly before opening to recover all contents. Handle with standard laboratory protective equipment.

    Quality Assurance

    Every batch of LL-37 is verified by HPLC for purity and Mass Spectrometry for molecular weight confirmation. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is provided with each order, and independent third-party testing reports are available upon request.
